look under DRUM AND BASS under SUB GENRE for Drumstep.
I've almost worn out this record, but Dubstep has NOTHING to do with DrumStep except it uses many of the same sounds in the recent versions of it..making everyone far too confused as to what it really is.
@ AI call it what you like, many names given to it but it's all Drum and Bass...spread the word
Crissy Criss and Youngman are putting out "mainly" DrumStep tunes favoring the jump up sounds for the most part but yeah I can't think of any producers I've seen yet go strictly DrumStep. I will say I have seen just about every producer(s) in Drum and Bass try at least one DrumStep tune over the last year..with others coming. Blokhe4d (Maldini+Vegas+Uman) made a pretty dirty little tune called "The Way Life Used To Be" that I have been playing..smoother stuff without all the wobblies. Cutline's "Dubstep sounding" DrumStep is REALLY nasty..check his forthcoming remix of Cascade by the Prototypes..pure filth! AK1200 is releasing some drumstep on his label Big Riddum by new artists like Dub Elements and Forbidden Society. J Rabbit and Bassnectar are always good to look out for as well. TONS of jump up producers exploring DrumStep right now so keep an eye out for that as well. Quite frankly it is everywhere and in a major transition stage right now as artists play around with it coming up with new ideas for it. Simply put DrumStep as a sub genre could now SAVE DnB in the US if we help it
Normally I would agree with you, I actually dont like getting hung up on sub-genres, when people ask me what style I play I always tell people I just play dnb, and a good track is a good track and a good dj should be able to play anything regardless of the style. There is something to be said tho in the fact that producers are officially labeling drumstep tracks as such. For example: Figure and Will Bailey - Move (Drumstep Mix). Thats what the artists themselves named it, not just "the dnb mix" or whatever, this goes for both dnb and dubstep producers.

I know beatport in particular this is not in its search parameters, a few other sites i use as well. I think its still too early for it to be recognized as even an official dnb subgenre. As mentioned above, from what I've seen, there have been various producers from a variety of genres releasing tracks, which usually just get sorted into their normal genres based on name recognition alone. So even tho some dubstep guy releases an ill drumstep song, because it got filed under dubstep and i dont listen to dubstep, I wouldnt know about it. Until they figure out what exactly IT is and where it should be sorted, its kind of a shit show.

I couldn't agree more

Re:
Drumstep
Not this debate again. I wish there was a central decision maker when it comes to this kinda thing early on. That way there's no confusion of what that new sound is. I am no expert but i would classify under drumnbass. As a subgenre of course like jumpup, jungle, liquid, techy,.... and all the other biz that falls under this great sound we stamped as drumandbass. Drumstep is new but i see many as saying that it is a form of drumnbass, why not. Its the same speed, same elements and something we can all agree upon. To class it as its own sound and separate genre would just dilute the EDM movement even further lead to more separation to an all ready struggling scene in the states. Just my opinion and my two cents.
question: what sub genre whould you put chase and status - duppy man.
pre-drumstep?

Man producers have been making this shit for ten years lol....There is nothing "NEW" about it....Just more people catching on....Amit was probably one of the firsts i've heard like years ago....off the top of my head...Breakage, Calibre, d-bridge, random movement, fano, paradox, seba....etc etc..I remember specifically seeing Amit in 04-05 in Houston and he played nothing but this stuff.
