I've been looking at the first gen s10 ups now for a few months. the more i look at them, the more i like them.

I wanted something I could haul some dj gear around, and not worry to much about it.

i've been watching craigslist for about 4 months now and today something caught my eye.

It's a trade in to the dealership. They just wanted to get rid of it asap. They wanted 1950$ for it before taxes. After all is said and done, I paid 1920$ for it, and that included Taxs, Tags and Registration. It has 86k miles on the v6 and its a manual transmission. tires are pretty much brand new. Carfax says its never been in a wreck.

I'm pretty happy with it. There is some surface rust, the front bumper is pushed up a little, and the front fenders have some slight damage. but nothing that can't be fixed. the inside needs some love...

but honestly.. im really happy and excited about it.

Parts are cheap for this.. so it should be a fun project.

So far here are my plans:

1. Replace Front Bumper.
2. Repair front quarter pannels.
3. Sand off all body rust, and primer
4. Fix the head liner on the inside. Looks terrible.
5. Get rid of side moldings, fill any holes and primer
6. lower it 4" in the front and 5" in the back.
7. Dash is pretty beat up and cracked. Wonder if I can fix it, or should just replace it.
8. Replace Carpet inside.
9. Recover Seats.
10. strip the paint, fixed all dings, primer it black.
11. Put my 16" Rims on it from my blazer.

buy a welder, and shave the door handles, and relocate the tailgate handle to the inside.

I'll post more pictures when I pick it up tomorrow.

ok this is going to be funny and serious..I have never understood the whole "low rider" thing..let's just say it's definitely not my style at all..but this seems like a very useful way to make vehicles more accessible for people with mobility issues to get in and out of their cars. My mother had a stroke when I was 13 leaving her paralyzed on her entire left side as she remains today. Those of you who have seen my F-150..it's not that high off the ground but it is totally inaccessible for my mom. I would never have this done to my truck but there are MANY people out there who have similar obstacles like my mom who would love to have more of a selection of automobile to choose from when picking their own vehicles. Doing this to those vehicles would enable them to pick almost anything they like out there and be able to get in and out without a problem..hell it looks like a wheelchair could almost roll in and out when it's lowered..idk thought I'd mention that.

they should make that an option when buying new cars/trucks.

well im suppose to be getting a 89 dakota from a friend of mind for 500$ no mechanical issues, but its got some dents and rust, i wouldn't mind making it look teh nice but we will see, got to handle some biz 1st

Today I need to get a set of door hinge pins so I can fix the sagging drivers door. while i'm at it, i'll just do the passenger door as well.

i'm ordering this in this stuff in the next few weeks.

i've always like the 89 dakota body style.

I got it home today. Drove it around for awhile. I haven't driven a standard in like 8 years but was able to do it.

It sounds like the drive shaft is vibrating. I have a feeling that the bearings are going out on it. Should be an easy fix. Shifting seems ok.

I have to be honest, even tho its a modest start.. i felt pretty freaking cool driving it. I'm really excited. Here are todays pictures.

Tail gate needs to be cleaned up. That should be pretty easy.



You can see where this guy bumped into something or someone. bumper is pushed up with a little fender damage. I think with some effort I can fix the fender.



Front shot. I'd like to get a phantom grill on it.. but that can wait for now. Also want to replace the lower valence, rust looks like crap.



Damage on the other fender. Again, fixable.



Tried to get a decent shot over the top.



Inside looks a little beat.. But I really like the seats. In those bags and boxes are door pin replacements. The pass door doesn't have to much of a problem, but the drivers side door sags pretty bad.



Looks like the head liner came off and the old owner just ripped it off. Yes.. its looks pretty disgusting.. But a little bit of effort and time will make it look nice.

As you can see.. it needs some work. I'm going replace the carpet with a black carpet replacement. Head liner will be black, dash will be taken out cleaned up and dyed or painted black. Doors.. black. Seats in time will be black.

I ordered an LMC Catalog last night. Once I get that in, all the rubber surrounds are going to get replaced so it doesn't leak.

Just got back into the house.. I just finished replacing the door pins and bushings. Its like night and day. I pretty much had to muscle the drivers door shut. now because it's perfectly lined up, it just shuts nice and smooth. Passenger side wasn't nearly as bad.. But I did it anyway. Took me about 5 hours. I had to completely take the doors off to do it. but because it doesn't have power windows and locks, there were no wires to worry about. doors were not very heavy. Just lifted them up on my own, and put them back on on my own.

Hinge Pins and Bushing.. 31$.

Next.. moldings come off. Going to get a heat gun tomorrow to heat the moldings up and take my time getting them off. I may just buy some cheap sanding blocks and primmer from auto zone and clean up the tail gate.
